Overview

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) - Experienced role at Customs and Border Protection offers an opportunity for individuals with prior law enforcement experience to serve their country and protect its borders. Agents will work in various duty locations and are eligible for various recruitment and retention incentives to support their transition into this critical role.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend aliens and smugglers near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance from covert positions using various tools.
  • Interpret physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
  • Conduct patrols using a variety of government assets.
  • Perform physical searches of detained individuals and their vehicles.
  • Prepare investigative reports and serve court orders, such as warrants.

Required skills

  • Experience in law enforcement, military police, or related fields.
  • Proficient use of firearms.
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions.
  • Knowledge of immigration and customs laws.
  • Experience in apprehending violators of laws.
