The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) - Experienced position at U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers individuals with prior law enforcement experience the opportunity to join a dedicated federal agency focused on securing the nation's borders. This full-time career role allows agents to protect communities while operating within a structured progression from GL-9 to GS-11 grades, with a variety of duty locations available across the United States.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend illegal aliens and smugglers at or near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance using various techniques and government assets.
  • Perform checks including traffic, city patrols, and inspections of documents.
  • Utilize intelligence information to track illegal operations and criminal activity.

Required skills

  • Law enforcement experience or military police background.
  • Proficient in the use of firearms.
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions.
  • Experience with investigative report preparation and evidence gathering.
  • Familiarity with technology including surveillance and communication systems.
