Overview

The Border Patrol Agent - Experienced role offers an opportunity to serve in a career position within the U.S. Border Patrol, focused on protecting the nation's borders. Candidates with prior law enforcement or military experience may qualify for higher-graded positions. This role emphasizes community safety and support within a highly trained workforce.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend aliens and smugglers at or near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance from covert positions and utilize various surveillance tools.
  • Conduct patrols using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other government assets.
  • Perform physical searches for weapons, contraband, and other evidence.
  • Lead investigations of illegal operations and criminal activity.

Required skills

  • Prior law enforcement or military experience
  • Ability to perform physical searches and apprehend violators
  • Proficient in the use of firearms
  • Experience in preparing investigative reports and serving court orders
  • Experience with surveillance and detection technologies
  • Strong decision-making and judgment skills
