Overview

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) - Experienced position at U.S. Customs and Border Protection involves protecting the community and securing the nation's borders. Candidates with prior law enforcement experience may qualify for higher-graded opportunities and are encouraged to apply for full-time, career positions within the agency.

Key responsibilities

  • Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations.
  • Preventing and apprehending illegal aliens and smugglers at or near the borders.
  • Interpreting physical evidence of illegal entry and maintaining surveillance.
  • Conducting various checks including farm, building, and traffic checks.
  • Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets.

Required skills

  • Prior law enforcement experience or military policing background.
  • Proficiency in firearms and law enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions.
  • Spanish language proficiency (training provided).
