Overview

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) role at Customs and Border Protection offers experienced law enforcement officers the opportunity to contribute to national security by securing the borders and preventing illegal activities. This full-time position is open for immediate hiring and includes various incentives for newly appointed agents, based on their qualifications and duty location preferences.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Apprehend aliens and smugglers at or near the borders
  • Perform surveillance and follow tracks and physical evidence of illegal entries
  • Conduct farm, building, traffic, and city patrols
  • Patrol using a variety of government assets including vehicles, horses, and watercraft

Required skills

  • Experience as a law enforcement officer (LEO)
  • Proficiency in the use of firearms
  • Ability to conduct physical searches and apprehend violators
  • Knowledge of immigration and customs laws
  • Spanish language proficiency is required
