Overview

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) position at U.S. Customs and Border Protection is looking for experienced law enforcement officers to join its mission to protect national borders and enhance public safety. New hires may qualify for higher-grade opportunities based on their prior law enforcement experiences, and there are immediate openings for career positions throughout various locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend aliens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Maintain surveillance using various methods, including infrared scopes.
  • Interpret physical evidence relating to illegal entry or contraband.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using diverse government assets.
  • Perform checks on farms, buildings, traffic, and transportation.

Required skills

  • Prior law enforcement or military law enforcement experience
  • Proficient in firearms and investigative reporting
  • Experience in making arrests and dealing with criminal activity
  • Ability to analyze information and make prompt decisions
  • Citizenship in the U.S.
  • Ability to lead investigations related to illegal operations
