Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents to protect the borders and enforce immigration laws. This role offers a career in federal law enforcement with a commitment to ensuring public safety and security, ideal for individuals looking to make a difference in their country. Applicants will receive extensive training and can expect to earn an annual base salary varying by grade level, along with significant recruitment and retention incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at borders.
  • Conduct surveillance operations using various government assets.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways.
  • Perform checks on farms, buildings, and vehicles.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a network of informants.

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to learn regulations and techniques through training.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience for GL-5 level qualification.
  • Specialized work experience in law enforcement for GL-7 level qualification.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish required.
