Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents to join its mission of protecting America by safeguarding its borders and preventing illegal activities. This role offers the opportunity to develop a long-term career in federal law enforcement, with a focus on teamwork, public safety, and national security.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and custom law violations
  • Conduct inspections of documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders
  • Utilize covert surveillance techniques during operations
  • Perform various checks, including farm, building, traffic, and city patrols
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets

Required skills

  • General work experience or educational background relevant to law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Military or law enforcement experience is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required for Border Patrol work
