Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is hiring entry-level Border Patrol Agents, offering a career in federal law enforcement that aims to protect the country's borders and citizens. This role provides an opportunity to work with an elite team while receiving excellent base pay, benefits, and substantial signing and retention incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine violations of citizenship.
  • Perform various checks including farm checks, building checks, and city patrols.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets.

Required skills

  • General work experience or relevant education in law enforcement, public safety, or military police.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication and observation skills.
  • Experience with firearms and law enforcement practices (for higher grade levels).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred).
