Job Description

Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents who are committed to a long-term federal law enforcement career focused on protecting the country and its citizens. Successful candidates will engage in various law enforcement duties, receive extensive training, and have opportunities for career advancement with significant financial incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Interpret and follow tracks and physical evidence of illegal entries.
  • Perform various checks including farm, building, traffic, and transportation checks.
  • Patrol international boundaries using government assets such as vehicles, horses, and ATVs.

Required skills

  • General work experience in decision-making and stressful environments.
  • Ability to gather information through observation and questioning.
  • Experience in law enforcement, military, or public safety is preferable.
  • Education background in related fields can substitute experience.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required as part of training.
