Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents to join their mission of safeguarding America and its citizens. This role offers an opportunity for a long-term federal law enforcement career with competitive pay and incentives. Candidates will train with a dedicated team and contribute to national security while ensuring the enforcement of immigration and customs laws.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Conduct inspections of documents and belongings to ascertain citizenship or violations
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Maintain surveillance and perform checks including patrols and transportation checks
  • Use various government assets for patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways

Required skills

  • Experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound judgments and decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Proficient in gathering information through questioning and observation
  • Knowledge of firearms and law enforcement methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including proficiency in Spanish and English

  • Annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,912 based on grade level
  • Up to $60,000 in additional incentives, including a $20,000 recruitment bonus and $40,000 in retention incentives over four years
