Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to fill full-time federal law enforcement positions. This role involves protecting the American people by safeguarding borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing national economic prosperity. Candidates with backgrounds in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and custom laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers.
  • Maintain surveillance from covert positions, including using infrared scopes.
  • Interpret and follow tracks and physical evidence related to illegal entries.
  • Perform various checks, including farm, building, traffic, and city patrols.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets.

Required skills

  • Experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analysis and rapid decision-making abilities in law enforcement matters.
  • Bachelor's degree or completion of relevant coursework may qualify applicants.
