Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the GL-5/7 grade levels, offering a long-term career in federal law enforcement that contributes to national security. Ideal candidates will have backgrounds in public safety, security, or military police, and they will receive exceptional benefits and significant recruitment and retention incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Conduct patrols and checks in various terrains using government vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize surveillance techniques and tools for border enforcement.
  • Interpret physical evidence related to illegal border crossings.

Required skills

  • Background in public safety, military police, or law enforcement.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Experience in law enforcement related judgment and decision-making.
  • Competence in analyzing information and making prompt decisions.
  • U.S. citizenship and residency requirements.
