Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) for full-time positions in federal law enforcement. This role involves safeguarding the borders of the United States, deterring illicit activities, and ensuring public safety. Candidates with prior experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship status
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Patrol international borders and coastal waterways using government vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain surveillance and gather evidence of illegal entries
  • Participate in farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, and city patrols

Required skills

  • Experience in public safety or law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound decisions and remain composed in stressful situations
  • Strong observation and questioning skills
  • Familiarity with firearms and law enforcement procedures
  • Ability to analyze information and make rapid decisions
