Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) to join their ranks in federal law enforcement. This role is suited for individuals looking to build a long-term career dedicated to protecting the nation and its citizens while participating in various law enforcement activities related to immigration and customs.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance and use infrared scopes during night operations.
  • Interpret and follow physical evidence of illegal entry.
  • Perform farm, building, traffic, and city patrol checks.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets.

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to learn regulations and methods through training.
  • Strong observational and questioning skills.
  • Experience in law enforcement, public safety, or military police.
  • Understanding of firearms and law enforcement protocols.
  • Spanish language proficiency is required.

  • Annual base salary ranges from $51,632 to $92,912 per year depending on grade level.
