Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) to join their federal law enforcement team. This role is critical in safeguarding the nation's borders, preventing unlawful activities, and enhancing economic prosperity. Candidates will engage in a variety of surveillance and law enforcement activities as part of a dedicated team.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations.
  • Apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers by maintaining surveillance.
  • Interpret physical evidence of illegal entry.
  • Perform patrolling and checks including farm, building, traffic, and transportation.
  • Use various government assets for border patrol missions.

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure
  • Education: bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience
  • Experience with firearms and law enforcement decision-making
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and maintain effective communication
  • Military or law enforcement experience may qualify for higher grade levels
