Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is hiring entry-level Border Patrol Agents at GL-5 and GL-7 grade levels, looking for individuals interested in a long-term federal law enforcement career. Successful candidates will be part of a dedicated team committed to protecting the nation's borders, with job stability and various incentives available for new hires.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Maintain surveillance using various techniques, including night operations
  • Conduct farm, building, traffic, and transportation checks
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets

Required skills

  • Experience in public safety, security, military, or law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound decisions and maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Skills in gathering concise information through observation and questioning
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions
