Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join their mission of protecting America's borders and citizens. This full-time federal law enforcement career offers new hires the chance to be part of an elite team while providing competitive base pay and significant recruitment and retention incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Conduct inspections of documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets.
  • Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, and city patrols.
  • Maintain surveillance and interpret physical evidence of illegal entries.

Required skills

  • One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree for GL-5 qualification
  • Specialized work experience for GL-7 qualification related to law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound decisions under stress
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions
  • U.S. citizenship and residency requirements
