Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join their federal law enforcement team. This career-oriented position involves protecting the nation's borders, preventing illegal activities, and upholding immigration laws. Successful candidates will undergo training and serve in critical duty locations, potentially with relocation requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Perform farm, building, traffic, and city patrol checks
  • Conduct surveillance and maintain monitoring for illegal entry
  • Patrol international boundaries and waterways using various government resources

Required skills

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure under stress
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience for GL-5 grade level
  • One year of specialized experience for GL-7 grade level, involving law enforcement decision-making and firearm use
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions
