Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the GL-5/7 grade levels to join their mission of protecting the country's borders. Candidates will train and work alongside a dedicated team, enjoying a career in federal law enforcement that offers excellent pay and benefits, including incentives for both new hires and retention.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near borders.
  • Perform surveillance and patrol in various environments using government assets.
  • Conduct farm, building, city, and traffic checks.
  • Follow physical evidence of illegal entry.

Required skills

  • Experience in law enforcement, military police, or public safety.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Skills in questioning, observation, and document examination.
  • Firearms usage experience or training.
  • Analytics for rapid information assessment.
  • Education in criminal justice or related fields (for higher grade levels).
