Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) for full-time, federal law enforcement positions. This role is centered around protecting the nation's borders, deterring illegal activities, and making a significant contribution to public safety. Candidates with a background in public safety, security, law enforcement, or military policing are encouraged to apply as USBP seeks dedicated individuals for its mission.

Key responsibilities

  • Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets
  • Maintaining surveillance from covert positions during nighttime operations
  • Conducting inspections and checks on documents, vehicles, and properties

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure under stress
  • Educational qualifications such as a bachelor's degree or a combination of experience and education
  • Specialized law enforcement experience for GL-7 grade level
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions
  • Experience with firearms and law enforcement matters
