Job Description

Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the GL-5/7 grade levels to join their mission of protecting the borders of the United States. This full-time, federal law enforcement position requires candidates with a commitment to public safety, security, and teamwork. Successful applicants will be part of an elite team, undergo rigorous training, and be eligible for significant hiring and retention incentives.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders
  • Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets
  • Utilize surveillance techniques, including infrared scopes during night operations

Required skills

  • Experience or education in law enforcement or military police
  • Physical fitness and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions
  • Competency in Spanish is preferred
