Overview

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) position at U.S. Customs and Border Protection is an entry-level role aimed at individuals seeking a long-term career in federal law enforcement. Agents will work to protect the borders of the United States, deter illicit activities, and support national economic prosperity through various law enforcement activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs law violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented individuals and smugglers at or near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance using various methods, including infrared scopes during night operations.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets.
  • Perform vehicle checks and community patrols to enforce border laws.

Required skills

  • Experience in general work environments demonstrating decision-making skills
  • Ability to remain composed under stressful situations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of immigration and customs laws
