Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the GL-5/7 grade levels to fulfill critical roles in federal law enforcement. This is not just a job; it is a long-term career path for those interested in protecting the nation's borders and making a significant difference in public safety. BPAs will receive training and support as part of a dedicated team committed to safeguarding the United States.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near the borders.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets.
  • Conduct surveillance and maintain vigilance in assigned areas.

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating sound decision-making under stress
  • Ability to gather information through questioning and observation
  • Experience in law enforcement or military police (preferred for GL-7 level)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience for GL-5 level
  • Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or graduate-level education for GL-7 level
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English through training
