Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking Entry Level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) for GL-5/7 grade levels to undertake a fulfilling career in federal law enforcement. As a BPA, you will be responsible for safeguarding America's borders, enforcing immigration and custom laws, and ensuring the nation's security through various patrol and surveillance activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and custom laws.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance and interpret physical evidence of illegal entry.
  • Perform various checks including farm, building, traffic, and city patrols.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets.

Required skills

  • Experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to analyze information and make prompt decisions.
  • Ability to speak and read Spanish is required.
