Job Description

Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) who are committed to a federal law enforcement career dedicated to protecting the nation. Ideal candidates will have experience in public safety or law enforcement and will take part in a rigorous training program to become proficient in various duties, including patrolling borders and apprehending violators of immigration laws.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and custom laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers.
  • Perform surveillance from covert positions, including night operations.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets.
  • Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, and city patrols.

Required skills

  • General work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to gather concise information through questioning and observation.
  • Specialized experience in law enforcement, including the use of firearms.
  • Strong analytical skills for making rapid decisions.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish.

  • Annual base salary of $51,632 to $92,912 based on grade level.
  • Up to $60,000 in additional incentives for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents.
