Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is hiring Border Patrol Agents at the entry-level (GL-5/7) to protect the American people by safeguarding borders and deterring illicit activities. This position is ideal for those seeking a long-term federal law enforcement career, enhancing public safety and security through various duties and responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, and city patrols
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets
  • Maintain surveillance and interpret physical evidence of illegal entries

Required skills

  • Prior experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement
  • Ability to make sound judgments in stressful situations
  • Strong observation and questioning skills
  • Experience with firearms and dealing courteously with the public
