Overview

The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) for a fulfilling career in federal law enforcement. Candidates will engage in a range of responsibilities aimed at protecting U.S. borders while enjoying job stability and competitive pay.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets.
  • Perform inspections, such as farm checks, building checks, and traffic checks.
  • Maintain surveillance from covert positions during operations.

Required skills

  • General work experience or a bachelor's degree related to the position.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Experience in public safety, security, or law enforcement.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with firearms and law enforcement matters.
