Overview

R.L. Barclay & Associates is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join their litigation team in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will manage complex civil litigation cases in various areas, including oil and gas and maritime law, while taking on substantive responsibilities across all litigation phases.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing assigned caseload through all phases of litigation
  • Drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda
  • Conducting legal research and preparing case strategy recommendations
  • Taking and defending depositions
  • Assisting with and participating in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
  • Preparing witnesses and trial exhibits
  • Communicating with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel
  • Ensuring compliance with court rules, scheduling orders, and deadlines
  • Supporting senior attorneys and partners in complex litigation matters

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar license in good standing with the Texas State Bar
  • 3 to 6 years of defense litigation experience
  • Experience in oil and gas litigation, maritime or admiralty law, commercial or general civil litigation
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery requests and responses
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with federal and state court procedures
