About This Position: The Lee Health Athletic Training Program is part of the Lee Health Musculoskeletal Institute and Sports Medicine services. The program provides certified athletic trainers who support local student-athletes, schools, and sports organizations throughout Southwest Florida. Through a partnership with the School District of Lee County, Lee Health athletic trainers help cover all public high schools in the county, supporting athletes across a wide variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, wrestling, and more. The program emphasizes athlete safety, wellness, and performance while collaborating closely with physicians, orthopedic specialists, physical therapists, and rehabilitation teams. As an athletic trainer, you will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and participating in a successful school athletics injury prevention and treatment program in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner that supports the goals of both the Lee County School District and Lee Health Rehabilitation Services. In this role, you will coordinate athletic training care alongside the Sports Medicine team, including physicians, head coaches, athletic directors, and Lee Health Rehabilitation Services staff. Athletic trainers are expected to adhere to all Lee Health and school district policies and procedures and work within the 196-day school instructional calendar year. Responsibilities include: Collaborating with school Activities/Athletic Directors to develop injury prevention and treatment programs Establishing schedules for first responders to ensure athletic event coverage Coordinating sports physicals for student-athletes Maintaining regular communication with coaches, administrators, physicians, parents, and students regarding injuries, rehabilitation, conditioning, and return-to-play participation. Additional duties include timely injury reporting and insurance documentation, conducting athlete education and conditioning programs, ensuring equitable coverage across sports, enforcing School Board and FHSAA policies related to tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, and participating in athletic testing and performance initiatives in partnership with Lee Health Rehabilitation Services.
