Job Description

Overview

The City of Essex Junction is looking for an Assistant Youth Librarian to provide support for library services aimed at children and families. This role involves helping youth and caregivers access library resources, enhance literacy skills, and fostering a welcoming environment at the library.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and responsive service at the Youth circulation desk
  • Assist children and caregivers in using the library and digital resources
  • Plan and lead engaging programs for children
  • Support outreach efforts with schools, families, and community organizations
  • Promote library programs and services through communication and marketing
  • Assist with selecting and maintaining youth collections
  • Help create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive library environment

Required skills

  • Experience working with children, families, or youth programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently and in a team
  • Comfort using technology and learning new systems
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant education and experience
  • At least two years of experience working with youth (library experience preferred)
