Overview

The City of Essex Junction is looking for an Assistant Youth Librarian to enhance library services for children and families. This role is vital in helping youth and caregivers navigate library resources, improve literacy skills, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and responsive service at the Youth circulation desk
  • Help children and caregivers use the library and digital resources
  • Plan and lead engaging programs for children, including literacy activities
  • Support outreach efforts with schools and community organizations
  • Promote library programs and services through communications and marketing
  • Assist with selecting and maintaining youth collections
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive library environment

Required skills

  • Experience working with children, families, or youth programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort using technology and learning new systems
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
  • At least two years of experience working with youth, preferably in a library
