Overview

The University of Florida is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in Space Biology/Astrobiology to join their Microbiology and Cell Science Department. This faculty position involves a split of 30% teaching and 70% research, primarily focused on curriculum development and research in space-related biological sciences.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach a 3-credit course in space life sciences for undergraduate and graduate students annually
  • Train PhD students and contribute to graduate curriculum development
  • Engage in research related to space biology, astrobiology, or space biomanufacturing
  • Actively seek contract and grant funding to support research programs
  • Participate in extension activities related to the program
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research and creative work
  • Publish teaching-related scholarship and produce learning tools

Required skills

  • Doctorate in life sciences with a focus on space biology or astrobiology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in extramural funding procurement
  • Ability to publish peer-reviewed papers as first author
  • Postdoctoral experience (preferred)
