Job Description

Overview

The Assistant Mill Controller at Packaging Corporation Of America (PCA) supports the Mill Controller and Administration Manager in managing the accounting, purchasing, and budgeting functions of the mill. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational performance while being part of the management team responsible for high-level decision-making.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in managing accounting and financial affairs of the mill
  • Support purchasing systems and functions, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and PCA's internal controls
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings
  • Coordinate preparation of budgets, financial reports, and forecasts
  • Maintain security and control of mill assets with timely reconciliations
  • Prepare internal management reports for decision-making
  • Analyze variances and recommend improvements
  • Develop short- and long-term financial plans based on business goals
  • Train and mentor accounting staff for career advancement

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP, accounting procedures, and internal controls
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Familiarity with general ledger financial systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and accounting software
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
