Job Description

Overview

The Assistant Director of the Clinical Genomics Lab at UPMC in Pittsburgh is responsible for leading the technical and compliance aspects of a laboratory specializing in prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing. This role also includes clinical case evaluation, laboratory procedure development, and engagement in academic activities in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical and compliance oversight for the clinical genomics laboratory
  • Evaluate and report clinical genetics and genomics cases
  • Develop, validate, implement, and maintain laboratory procedures
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements
  • Consult with clinicians and clients regarding test selection and result interpretation
  • Participate in research aligned with the clinical and public health missions
  • Contribute to teaching and training at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Collaborate with faculty and researchers across the institution

Required skills

  • PhD, MD, or DO in Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetics, or related field
  • ABMGG board certified or board eligible in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics
  • Minimum 3 years clinical laboratory experience
  • Expertise in exome/genome analysis and interpretation of data from NGS
  • Proficiency with LIMS and genomic data analysis tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and operational leadership
