Job Title: Assistant Controller, Real Estate Status: Full-time, Exempt Salary: $100,000-$135,000 annually, plus bonus potential About this role:The Assistant Controller, Real Estate is responsible for preparing monthly and annual financial statements, reports, and visualizations for all real estate properties. This position performs complex accounting functions requiring professional judgment, including interpreting financial information across multiple legal entities and consolidating them into parent entities. The successful candidate will be able to communicate these complexities to others and will be responsible for budgeting analysis, general ledger reconciliations, supporting schedules, CAM reconciliations, business tax returns, and audit schedules for external auditors. What you'll do: Review all invoices/bills for proper general ledger coding and ensure the correct Entity/Company is selected.Review invoices for unbilled sales and use tax; record and remit amounts to the applicable state when necessary.Review accounts receivable and actively pursue collections, with the goal of eliminating accounts receivable balances more than 90 days past due.Retrieve leases and identify applicable clauses to support tenant collections.Assist in lease retrieval and identification of certain clauses in order to aid the Operations Group in determining legal issues with tenants.Receive, prepare and post journals to the General Ledger including, but not limited to, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, recurring, cash, payroll, insurance, inter-company and construction in progress projects as activity occurs.Prepare and maintain various Balance Sheet supporting schedules.Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and reports, including explanations of significant budget variances.Reconcile Balance Sheets accounts as needed.Research financial data inconsistencies, discrepancies, errors, etc. and make corrections as needed.Analyze, interpret, draw conclusions, and report results of various financial data such as trending patterns, benchmark comparisons, etc.Update SAGE (fixed asset system) for deferred charges.Participate in the annual budget process, gathering financial data as needed.Prepare the annual audit schedules and assist auditors in answering their questions regarding account transactions, balances, location of files, etc.Manage project and capital job tracking in Yardi Construction, including budgets, budget revisions, contractor contracts, invoice commitments, and change orders.Prepare yearly CAM reconciliations.Enter new leases and/or lease renewals.Other duties as assigned.
