Assistant Controller (Manufacturing-Multi-Entity) Position: Assistant Controller Reports to: Controller Company: Bundy Baking Solutions Location: On-site - 417 E. Water St., Urbana, OH Position Summary: The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting in the oversight of all accounting operations across multiple manufacturing entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP. This role is part of a team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, cost accounting, and general ledger activities. In a multi-plant, multi-entity manufacturing environment, the Assistant Controller plays a critical role in inventory accounting, standard costing, and operational finance support. This position partners closely with the Controller and plant operations to analyze costs, improve profitability, and drive process efficiencies. Strong leadership, advanced Excel skills, and experience with ERP systems is required. Confidentiality and sound judgment are essential. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership & Team Management Assist in the development of accounting staff across multiple entities or locationsLead by exampleEstablish performance expectationsPromote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration Accounting Operations Assist in the oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash application processes across multiple companiesReview and approve transaction coding to ensure proper general ledger classification by entity and divisionManage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminationsAssist in the oversight of customer billing, vendor payments, and deposit activities across business unitsApprove check runs and ACH transactions Manufacturing & Cost Accounting Assist in the oversight of inventory accounting, including raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goodsAssist with managing and reviewing standard costing, cost roll-ups, and bill of materials (BOM) accuracyAnalyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead) and partner with plant leadership to address issuesMonitor inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and physical inventory processesSupport production reporting, margin analysis, and cost control initiatives Financial Close & Reporting Assist in month-end and year-end close processes for multiple entitiesReview and/or prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statementsEnsure timely and accurate reporting of financial resultsPrepare and analyze financial reports, including cash flows, variance analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs) Compliance, Controls & Audits Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assetsEnsure compliance with GAAP and company policies across all entitiesMaintain documentation of accounting processes and procedures Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Support Partner with operations, supply chain, and plant managers to improve financial performanceIdentify and implement process improvements and system enhancements (ERP optimization)Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiativesStreamline workflows across entities to improve efficiency and scalability Confidentiality Protect the organization by maintaining strict confidentiality of financial, operational, and personnel information Knowledge and Ability: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA or CMA preferred)Accounting experience in a manufacturing environmentStrong knowledge of GAAP and multi-entity accounting structuresExperience with cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory accountingProficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, or similar)Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)Experience managing intercompany transactions and consolidationsStrong leadership and team development skillsExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abili
