Job Description

Overview

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations within the organization. This role involves ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, managing the Finance department, and serving as a key liaison with external auditors, all while adhering to GAAP and other regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external financial reports
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance department
  • Oversee monthly revenue recognition and the month-end close process
  • Serve as liaison to external auditors for annual financial audits
  • Assist in budget development and analysis for the MBA and affiliates
  • Prepare IRS tax returns and annual property tax return
  • Supervise finance personnel to ensure optimal performance
  • Analyze and prepare ad-hoc financial reports for stakeholders

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Seven years of progressive accounting and management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and consultative skills
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and budgeting software
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of NetSuite is a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP with emphasis on non-profit sector
  • Ability to recruit and manage high-performance personnel
