Job Description

Overview

Waste Connections is hiring an Assistant Controller for their Elkhart, IN location. This role is designed to prepare the candidate for a promotion to a District Controller position at one of their other locations, focusing on financial reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform monthly financial close functions and prepare financial statements for designated locations
  • Reconcile all general ledger accounts
  • Conduct monthly analysis of significant financial variances to budget and forecast
  • Complete a three-month financial forecast each month
  • Analyze rates and conduct reviews
  • Communicate financial information effectively to business counterparts
  • Manage accounting data flow to and from remote facilities
  • Assist with quarterly Sarbanes Oxley compliance and review
  • Plan and participate in the annual financial budget process
  • Provide training to non-financial personnel on internal controls and accounting procedures

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred, but recent grads will be considered
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • CPA and/or other professional certifications are a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and related accounting systems
