Job Description

Overview

The City of San Luis is seeking a part-time Assistant City Prosecutor to support the prosecution of misdemeanor cases in the City court. This position involves preparing and presenting cases, conducting legal research, and ensuring compliance with legal standards while working closely under the City Prosecutor's supervision.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in the prosecution of misdemeanor cases in the municipal court
  • Appear at routine hearings and conduct legal analysis on case files
  • Communicate with defendants and defense attorneys regarding case status
  • Prepare criminal cases for trial and interview witnesses
  • Ensure victims' rights are observed and assist with restitution requests
  • Monitor defendants' compliance with probation and deferred prosecution agreements
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents as required
  • Support positive relationships with the community and city staff
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Knowledge of Arizona criminal and civil statutes
  • Familiarity with Arizona judicial procedures and rules of evidence
  • Legal research methods and case management procedures
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to analyze and present legal arguments effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Office 365
  • Juris Doctor Degree or Arizona Legal Paraprofessional license
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check
