Job Description

Overview

The City of San Luis is seeking an Assistant City Prosecutor to join its team in Yuma, Arizona. This part-time, hybrid position involves participating in the prosecution of misdemeanor cases in the City court under the supervision of the City Prosecutor.

Key responsibilities

  • Appear at routine hearings in municipal court
  • Review police reports and conduct legal analysis
  • Determine whether plea agreements will be offered
  • Prepare criminal cases for trial and interview witnesses
  • Monitor compliance with probation and deferred prosecution agreements
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents
  • Support the relationship between the City and the public
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Knowledge of Arizona criminal and civil statutes
  • Understanding of Arizona judicial procedures and Rules of Court
  • Legal research methods and techniques
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Negotiation skills and courtroom presentation
  • Experience in legal case management
  • Familiarity with computer software such as Prosecutor by Karpel and Microsoft Office
  • Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent for Legal Paraprofessional license
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and ability to pass fingerprint check
