Overview

Care Options for Kids is looking for a skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in Summerville, South Carolina. The interpreter will facilitate communication for students, helping them to access their academic curriculum and social environments effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct interpreting services in classroom instruction and school activities
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, peers, and school staff
  • Support students in accessing classroom instruction and discussions
  • Collaborate with general education and special education staff
  • Participate in IEP meetings to ensure compliance with educational access requirements

Required skills

  • High school diploma; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Interpreting or related field preferred
  • National certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or EIPA certification
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and Signed Exact English (SEE)
  • Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students
