Job Description

Overview

At Capital One, the Applied Researcher I will play a critical role in developing AI systems that enhance customer experiences in banking. Working within the AI Foundations team, the researcher will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and implement AI models that integrate cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
  • Leverage technologies such as Pytorch, AWS, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs to analyze large datasets.
  • Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Conduct applied research to advance AI capabilities for customer experience improvements.
  • Translate complex AI concepts into actionable business goals.

Required skills

  • PhD or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Experience in applied research and developing AI foundation models.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Pytorch, AWS, Huggingface.
  • Knowledge of training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, and RLHF.
  • Ability to own and pursue a research agenda.
