Overview

The Applied Engineer role at Steel Point Opportunities focuses on integrating AI features into financial software for hedge funds and asset managers. Candidates will be expected to deliver custom platforms quickly while leveraging modern AI tools and full-stack development skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Build LLM-powered features into client-facing platforms
  • Design and implement MCP-connected data sources and AI orchestration layers
  • Develop end-to-end applications for portfolio analytics and risk management
  • Design and maintain high-performance APIs using Python
  • Create intuitive, responsive UIs in React
  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines for data handling
  • Implement analytics layers for performance and risk calculations
  • Deliver working software in compressed timelines while gathering user feedback
  • Work with Kubernetes for deployments in client environments

Required skills

  • 3-8 years as a full-stack software engineer or applied AI engineer
  • Demonstrated experience using agentic AI tooling and building user-facing products
  • Strong Python expertise, preferably with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
  • Understanding of the agentic loop in AI frameworks
  • Experience in unstructured environments and solving loosely defined problems
  • Interest in AI's impact on software and institutional investing
