Overview

The Ambulatory Service Representative for Neurosurgery at CHRISTUS Health performs complex administrative duties for patients requiring appointments, procedures, and ancillary services in an outpatient setting. This role involves assessing patient needs, scheduling appointments, and managing communication between patients and healthcare providers.

Key responsibilities

  • Receives and directs phone calls from patients and physician offices
  • Schedules patients for treatment by multiple providers and arranges associated tests and procedures
  • Prioritizes appointments for optimal patient care and efficient use of resources
  • Handles urgent patient care calls and alerts providers to emergent needs
  • Greets patients and confirms demographic and insurance information
  • Collects co-payments and obtains consent signatures for treatment authorization
  • Collaborates with insurers to obtain prior authorizations for procedures and tests
  • Maintains accurate and timely records and performs various clerical duties
  • Prepares special reports or spreadsheets for physicians as requested
  • Complies with departmental policies and health regulations

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient in software and computer systems
  • Knowledgeable of business office terminology and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and work under stressful situations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • 1+ year of customer service experience
  • Experience with medical office terminology preferred
