Overview

The Air Force Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) at Whiteman AFB provides essential support to Air Force personnel and their families who are victims of intimate partner abuse. This role is responsible for offering non-clinical emergency and urgent services, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of victims through comprehensive support and advocacy.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 response to victims of abuse via phone or in-person
  • Establish and review Victim Safety Plans on a case-by-case basis
  • Conduct initial and ongoing risk assessments
  • Notify relevant authorities if imminent risk of serious harm is established
  • Advise victims on available military and civil actions for safety
  • Offer information regarding victim needs such as shelter, legal services, and medical resources
  • Accompany clients to appointments or court proceedings when requested
  • Maintain contact files for each victim served
  • Collaborate with base agencies to improve responses to victims
  • Empower victims to be involved in their safety planning

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in advocacy services for domestic violence/abuse victims
  • Basic Advocate Credential with designation of Comprehensive Intervention Specialist
  • Pass criminal history/Security Clearance background check
  • Current certification in BLS or CPR
  • Computer proficiency and data entry skills
  • Ability to use Family Advocacy Program Network software
