Job Description

Overview

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is looking for an experienced Agile Product Owner to manage software products within their Monitor & Control (M&C) group. This role involves defining product vision, managing the product backlog, and ensuring software development aligns with the needs of stakeholders and the scientific user community across various NRAO facilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Translate the product vision for telescope M&C software to Agile development teams using Scrum
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Prioritize product backlog based on stakeholder needs and project goals
  • Act as a bridge between stakeholders and development teams to address specifications and roadblocks
  • Gather and organize user feedback to refine the product roadmap
  • Facilitate Agile activities like sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Evaluate new Agile practices to enhance team effectiveness and delivery quality

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in management, computer science, astronomy, or related field
  • At least four years of experience as a Product Owner in software development
  • Active certification as Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO) or Certified Scrum Professional - Product Owner
  • Familiarity with hardware-software integration for mechanical systems
  • Experience using Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Background in software development, ideally with applications using C++
  • Knowledge of radio astronomy principles and observatory operations

  • Starting salary between $79,000 and $120,000
