Job Description

Overview

The Adventure Camp Assistant Counselor supports the work of the Y, focusing on youth development in a seasonal adventure camp setting. This role involves supervising youth during outdoor activities, providing positive engagement, and assisting in lesson planning and camp operations, all while embodying the YMCA's core values.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising and leading camp activities and field trips
  • Build relationships with YMCA members and participants
  • Provide safe transportation for participants using the YMCA bus if eligible
  • Plan and set up lesson plans for camp activities
  • Follow and uphold safety procedures and YMCA policies
  • Report incidents or concerns promptly
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Participate in staff meetings and training

Required skills

  • Experience working with youth grades 4-8
  • Knowledge in outdoor living and education
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
  • Behavioral management skills
  • Ability to implement outdoor program activities offsite
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
