Job Description

Overview

The Adult Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System is responsible for providing respiratory care treatment and services to patients of all ages, including in-patients and out-patients. This position involves performing diagnostic testing, oxygen therapy, and ventilation support while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to patients
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures, including Arterial Blood Gases and EKG analysis
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Monitor and adjust artificial ventilation and oxygen therapy
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • Computer skills for data entry and information retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and specific software packages
