Overview

The Adult Respiratory Therapist at Ochsner Health System provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. This role is integral in ensuring proper respiratory health, including the management of oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, as well as conducting diagnostic procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to patients
  • Conduct diagnostic testing and analyze Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs
  • Monitor and wean patients off oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Educate patients and colleagues on procedures and treatment plans
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and other software packages
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork
